Collections.

I recently had a long discussion about my paintings with a visitor to the studio and ended up with a range of work randomly arranged on the floor.  I was surprised to see how these disparate pieces could interact, animate and emphasize each others dynamics.  The subjects and scale of the work varied and the execution of the pieces was in no way uniform, but as a collection, the individual paintings became stronger. This comes as both a relief and a disappointment as my aim is to make single images that have the strength of these groupings.  It also reinforces my recent realization that what I am attempting to achieve in a single painting may well be impossible.
